Paving Work and Lane Restrictions on I-95 Bridge in Kittery

KITTERY - Paving work on the Piscataqua River (I-95) Bridge will require additional daytime lane closures this week.

Crews plan to pave parts of the northbound side of the bridge first. This will restrict northbound traffic to one lane between 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6th and 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7th. Southbound paving will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7th and continue until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8th. Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane during paving operations. The schedule for this work is weather-dependent because we need dry conditions in order to pave.

The Maine Department of Transportation is allowing more daytime construction work right now because we have seen traffic volumes drop significantly in recent weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In late March, traffic on the Piscataqua River Bridge was down more than 60 percent when compared to the same period in 2019.

This bridge work is part of the "Maine Ahead" project, which also involves the Maine Turnpike Authority and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. The improvements on the Piscataqua River Bridge and at the York Toll Plaza will revitalize Maine's southern gateway.

Drivers should obey work-zone speed limits and be alert and careful while passing our crews. Our primary focus is the safety of both our crews and the traveling public.
