Overnight Work Tonight to Close Falmouth Spur (Exit 52) On-ramps

Closures necessary for pavement work

PORTLAND, Maine – The Maine Turnpike Authority will close both on-ramps to the Turnpike for traffic entering from the Falmouth Spur at Exit 52 on Thursday, September 26 for pavement work, weather permitting.

  • The southbound on-ramp to enter the Turnpike from the Falmouth Spur at Exit 52 is scheduled to close from 10:00 p.m. until approximately 2:00 a.m.
  • The northbound on-ramp to enter the Turnpike from the Falmouth Spur at Exit 52 is scheduled to close at approximately 2:00 a.m. until 5:00 a.m.

The ramp closures are necessary for crews to safely remove the top layer of aging pavement—a process called “milling,” before new pavement is applied at a later date. The work is scheduled at night to minimize traffic impact and may require completion Friday evening.

The MTA advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destination by alternate routes. The work zones will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage.

Motorists are encouraged to visit smartphone friendly MaineTurnpike.com for up-to-the-minute travel alerts or sign-up to receive them by e-mail. The MTA also provides timely updates and other helpful Turnpike information on Facebook and Twitter. The MTA strongly urges drivers to keep their eyes on the road and only check travel information before leaving or by stopping at one of its 5 service plazas.
