Maine Turnpike Authority Reduces Cost of E-ZPass Sign-up

Electronic Transponder Price Reduced 60%*

PORTLAND—The Maine Turnpike Authority is continuing efforts to promote the use of the E-ZPass electronic toll collection system by reducing the cost of the windshield transponder from $25 to only $10*. E-ZPass saves time by eliminating the need for payment to change hands at toll plazas and offers savings from Maine Turnpike cash toll rates.

E-ZPass electronically detects and processes tolls by using the windshield mounted transponder to activate antennas located overhead at toll plazas. The antenna identifies your transponder and reads your pre-paid account information. The amount of the toll is deducted and a green light indicates your toll is paid. A yellow light will indicate if an account is low or depleted. E-ZPass toll collection is meant to maintain traffic flow and avoid searching for cash when approaching toll plazas. E-ZPass users reduce their commuting times and save gas as special E-ZPass only lanes process vehicles more rapidly, enabling travelers to proceed with their trips in a timelier manner. E-ZPass can be used to pass through any open vehicle lane at any toll plaza along the Maine Turnpike.

E-ZPass electronic toll paying is also now available at 24 different toll agencies in 14 Northeast or Midwest states, including New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. Over 21 million E-ZPass transponders are now in circulation throughout the United States.

Motorists who do not already have E-ZPass can sign up by calling 1-888-MTA-PASS (1-888-682-7277), visitingwww.maineturnpike.com or dropping by the Maine Turnpike Authority headquarters located off Exit 46 (Jetport, Congress Street).

*Transponder price for windshield mounted devices only and does not include taxes
