Leighton Road Bridge in Falmouth Open to Traffic

Contractor Will Return Next Spring to Apply Permanent Pavement

PORTLAND, Maine – The Maine Turnpike Authority today announced it has reopened the bridge which carries traffic over the turnpike on Leighton Road in Falmouth at mile 52. The bridge was closed in September for repairs and modifications, including increasing clearance under the bridge for turnpike traffic, bridge deck replacement, concrete pier and abutment repairs, and bridge joint replacements.

Temporary pavement was placed on the roadway due to falling temperatures allowing the bridge to open through the holidays and winter. The bridge will again close for approximately one week next spring to remove the temporary pavement, lay the protective bridge membrane and permanently pave the bridge surface, roadway approaches and nearby driveways. This work may require another short time bridge closure of a week to complete this work.
