Exit 42 Bridge Repairs to Force Overnight Closures

Southbound on ramp at Exit 42 Interchange to be closed beginning Sunday night (8/19)

PORTLAND, Maine – Beginning Sunday evening, August 19, the southbound on ramp at Exit 42 in Scarborough will be closed for bridge repairs.  Drivers will be able to exit I-95 southbound at Exit 42 but will not be able to re-enter the turnpike southbound during the temporary closures.  The closures are scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. and will last for several nights. All other ramps at Exit 42 will be open during this time.

Motorists should prepare alternate travel routes during the closures. Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of closures, and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts on 1610 AM will also be used to inform drivers. The Maine Turnpike Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding during this construction.

The $2.6 million project, awarded to Lane Construction of Westbrook, began in July 2012 and includes interchange ramp and pavement rehabilitation at Exit 42 in Scarborough as well as pavement rehabilitation at Exit 45 in South Portland.  The project will be completed in the fall of 2012. Additional Exit 42 and 45 ramp closures will be scheduled in future weeks.
