Blackstrap Road Bridge in Falmouth Re-opening Delayed
Bridge expected to reopen for local traffic by mid-November
PORTLAND, Maine – The Blackstrap Road Bridge in Falmouth, which carries local traffic over the Maine Turnpike, will remain closed until mid-November. Initial plans called for the bridge to reopen on November 1st.
It has been closed since June so construction crews could safely increase bridge under clearance, repair the bridge’s steel substructure and completely replace the concrete deck under the pavement. This is the first major work on the bridge deck since it was first built in 1953.
The Maine Turnpike Authority does not take the issue of project delays lightly. Project managers know they have an impact on drivers and sincerely appreciate their patience and understanding.
