Overview of Recent Bridge Repairs on Forest Ave and Saco River Bridges
In the Fall of 2025, the MTA completed necessary repairs to the Forest Avenue Bridge at mile marker 50 in Portland to address deterioration in the bridge decks. These repairs are an important part of MTA’s ongoing commitment to proactive maintenance and long-term reliability.
The project scope also consisted of removing and reconstructing the concrete curbs on both sides of the southbound Saco River bridge, installing new railing anchorage, and resetting the existing 2-bar aluminum bridge rail.
The work at Forest Avenue bridge involves removing pavement surface, partial depth and full depth deck chipping and patching, deck membrane repair, paving, asphalt joint removal and reinstallation, and maintenance of all required traffic control devices.
