Overnight Ramp Closures Scheduled as Exit 35 Construction Progresses in Saco

Saco, Maine – The new interchange, Exit 35 in Saco on the Maine Turnpike, is slated to be open this fall. However,  some remaining construction work will affect drivers in the coming days.

On Monday, July 21, the Exit 36 northbound on and off ramps will be closed overnight. Then, on Tuesday, July 22, the Exit 36 southbound off-ramp will be closed. All closures will take place from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM. These closures at Exit 36 are necessary to install signs as part of the Exit 35 construction, providing guidance for motorists using the new interchange.

This work is weather dependent. If needed, Wednesday, July 23, will serve as a rain date. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes during these closures.

As part of the Exit 35 project, significant improvements have also been made along Route 112, including the installation of new sidewalks, islands, and curbing. A lane shift will be implemented in the coming weeks to allow for bridge repairs, followed by milling and paving later this summer.

On the Turnpike mainline, signs will be installed and pavement striping completed on the new collector-distributor road, which is designed to allow vehicles to merge safely without disrupting mainline traffic.

Utility work for the toll collection system and signal equipment is ongoing. Once complete, the E-ZPass system will undergo testing to ensure the highest level of accuracy.

The full interchange is anticipated to open in late fall 2025.
