Maine Turnpike Authority Announces Forest Avenue Bridge Repairs and Community Meeting

PORTLAND, Maine –  Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA) will undertake necessary repairs to the Forest Avenue Bridge at mile marker 50 in Portland to address deterioration in the bridge decks. The bridge remains safe for travel; these repairs are an important part of MTA’s ongoing commitment to proactive maintenance and long-term reliability.

To keep the community informed, MTA has scheduled a public meeting on Tuesday, September 24, at 6:00 PM at the Gerald Talbot Community School. At the meeting, MTA representatives will share project details, outline the construction timeline, and hear feedback from residents.

“We believe it’s important to listen to residents and share our construction plans with those who live nearby or commute through the area,” said Andre Briere, Executive Director of the Maine Turnpike Authority. “While the bridge is currently safe for travel, these improvements are crucial to ensuring its continued safety and long-term reliability for our customers.”
Construction activity is expected to begin in October and continue through the end of the year, with additional work scheduled to continue into next summer. While the project will introduce some construction noise and require limited adjustments to traffic patterns, impacts to Forest Avenue are expected to be minor.  MTA is coordinating closely with the City of Portland to help keep traffic moving smoothly throughout the process.

“We encourage residents to attend the meeting, share their perspectives, and provide feedback not only on this project but on our broader operations in their neighborhood,” added Briere. “As work progresses, we are committed to keeping the community informed and maintaining open communication with area residents.”
