PR & Marketing Intern



The Maine Turnpike Authority is seeking a full-time student currently enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, English, or a similar/related field. This is a seasonal, entry-level position based out of our Portland, Maine office. The Turnpike is 110 miles of interstate highway in southern Maine. Some travel along the corridor is required.

This is semi-skilled work assisting the PR and Marketing team with communication and outreach efforts for Maine’s Turnpike. The intern will work under the supervision of the PR Manager and senior staff to support a variety of campaigns and initiatives. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Collaborating with senior staff on major construction projects and public outreach campaigns.
• Sharing timely updates on smaller projects through social media and web platforms.
• Assisting with the creation of creative strategies to promote safety and public engagement.
• Designing, scheduling, and posting content for MTA’s social media channels.
• Analyzing social media and web analytics to track trends and performance.
• Developing fact sheets, news releases, infographics, and short-form videos.
• Assisting with marketing campaigns for E-ZPass, traffic updates, safety initiatives, and more!
• Helping to organize and represent MTA at events, conferences, and community meetings.

Employees are supervised at regular intervals to ensure quality and accuracy of work. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, and be familiar with social media platforms and basic design tools. Candidates should be creative, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Coursework or experience in graphic design, social media management, or digital content creation is preferred.

This position is primarily office-based but may include occasional field visits. The employee must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and wear required personal protective equipment as needed during field visits.
Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility required for occasional non-routine hours.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class C State of Maine driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Pay rate is $25.00 per hour.
