Engineering Technician I (Construction Inspector I)
The Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA), Maine’s Gold Star Memorial Highway, is seeking a Engineering Technician I to join its Portland engineering team. Reporting to the Construction Project Manager, this position performs skilled sub-professional technical work on highway and bridge projects in both field and office environments. The technician inspects contractor traffic control setups according to Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards and tests field aggregates for sieve analysis and compaction control. Additional field duties include operating specialized equipment like nuclear moisture density gauges, and inspecting asphalt plant operations, paving yields, slopes, and embankments. Working under guidance of professional superiors, the employee may occasionally supervise small teams on routine tasks while collecting and providing critical electronic project data.
The salary range is $29.38 to $40.74 (10 steps) per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

- Normal work week: Forty (40) hours (five 8-hour days), 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Engineering Technician overnight shift differential: Regularly scheduled hours between 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. will be paid a $6.00 per hour shift differential
