The Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA), Maine’s Gold Star Memorial Highway, is seeking a Director of Data Engineering and Analytics to join its Engineering Department at its headquarters in Portland, Maine. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, this position provides both hands-on technical leadership and strategic direction for the Authority’s enterprise data, analytics, and reporting programs.
This role is responsible for advancing MTA’s data capabilities in business intelligence, data warehousing, GIS, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence. The Director develops enterprise reporting tools, dashboards, performance metrics, and data storytelling solutions that support executive decision-making and operational needs. The position also leads a team of data professionals and collaborates with internal departments to integrate data solutions across the organization.
Key responsibilities include establishing data governance and reporting standards, delivering executive-level insights and visualizations, ensuring high-quality analytics and decision-support frameworks, and supporting the adoption of emerging technologies to improve efficiency and decision-making. The Director ensures data is accurate, accessible, and effectively used across all areas of the Authority.
Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in data science, engineering, mathematics, finance, or a related field, along with at least ten years of experience in data engineering, analytics, BI, GIS, AI, or data governance. A minimum of five years of management experience is required. Candidates should have experience with both cloud and on-premises data environments, strong communication and leadership skills, and experience supporting executive leadership and enterprise reporting.
Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, experience with GIS applications, high-volume transactional environments, enterprise-wide analytics strategy, and familiarity with tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Excel. Experience with Python, Scala, or JavaScript is a plus.
The position is classified at a Range 24, $115,814 to $190,798, commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package including health and dental insurance, retirement plan, health reimbursement account; paid vacation and sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.
