Construction Project Manager

The Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA), Maine’s Gold Star Memorial Highway, is seeking a Construction Project Manager to join its Engineering team at its headquarters in Portland, Maine. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Construction Project Manager oversees highway and bridge construction projects throughout the construction phase, working closely with engineers, consultants, contractors, and internal staff to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with plans and specifications.

This position is responsible for managing day-to-day construction activities, coordinating with all project participants, reviewing contractor pay requisitions and requests for information, and monitoring project schedules and budgets. The Construction Project Manager also supervises MTA Construction Inspectors and MTA Resident Engineers, assists with constructability reviews during project development, ensures adherence to environmental, safety, and right-of-way requirements, participates in bidding and contract administration processes, and prepares progress reports for MTA leadership.

Qualified candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Professional Engineer licensure in the State of Maine is preferred; if not a P.E., significant experience and relevant certifications such as NETTCP or Maine Concrete Technician is required. Candidates must have at least four years of progressively responsible construction management experience if licensed as a PE, or eight years of related experience if not. Considerable knowledge of the maintenance, design and construction of highways, bridges and structures, excellent communication and leadership skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and a valid Maine driver’s license are required.

The salary range is $46.11 to $75.97 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. MTA offers a comprehensive benefits package including health and dental insurance, retirement plans, paid vacation and sick leave, and thirteen paid holidays.
