Nighttime stoppages on Turnpike mainline scheduled for this week

Multiple stoppages of up to 25 minutes in the Portland area Monday & Tuesday night

PORTLAND, Maine – Beginning at 10:00 PM on Monday, March 16, 2020, traffic stops of up to 25-minutes will occur on the Maine Turnpike in the Portland area between Exit 45 (Maine Mall Road) and Mile 49 in the vicinity of Warren Avenue Bridge for two nights.  A series of up to 25-minute stoppages will occur in both directions between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM Monday and Tuesday nights. Additionally, the Exit 45 northbound on-ramp will be closed during the stoppages.

These stoppages are related to work on two separate projects:  setting of structural steel on the Warren Avenue Bridge headed southbound and pulling of new conduit across the roadway for Central Maine Power pole relocation associated with the upcoming Exit 45 Interchange Redesign.

All work is weather dependent with Wednesday, March 18 and Thursday, March 19 slotted for contingency dates. Motorists should prepare for delays or seek alternate travel routes during the stoppage times. Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of the stoppages, and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts on 1610 AM will also be used to inform drivers. The Maine Turnpike Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding during this construction.
