Dutton Hill Bridge in Gray to be closed for construction beginning June 22

Bridge will be closed to traffic until mid-November

GRAY, Maine – Beginning on Friday, June 22, 2018, the Dutton Hill Bridge in Gray that carries traffic over the Maine Turnpike will be closed for construction.  The closure is necessary in order to facilitate major rehabilitation work and to ensure safety of the construction crews and public.  Work on the bridge consists of raising the existing bridge structure to provide a minimum vertical clearance of 15’6”, replacing the concrete deck, repairs to the existing abutments and piers and reconstruction of the bridge approaches.

During the closure a detour route will be signed.  The signed detour route during bridge rehabilitation will redirect traffic to Portland Road/New Gray Road, Blackstrap Road and Forest Lake Road.  The detour as signed is approximately 3.8 miles long.  The Dutton Hill Bridge carries approximately 1,100 vehicles per day over the mainline of the Maine Turnpike. Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of the closure. The Maine Turnpike Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding during this construction.

The $1.5 million project, part of a $3.2 million contract awarded to Wyman & Simpson, Inc. of Richmond, is scheduled to be complete by mid-November 2018.
