2009 Toll Adjustment

Maine Turnpike Toll

In order to properly maintain the 109-mile Maine Turnpike and its 176 Bridges, the Maine Turnpike Authority plans and executes ongoing paving, roadwork and bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects. Faced with dramatically increased construction and maintenance costs along with declining revenues due to reduced traffic, the Authority’s Board of Directors has determined that it is necessary to advance a scheduled 2010 toll increase by one year to February 2009.

Approximately $20 million annually must be realized to enable required road and bridge improvements to be accomplished. The Maine Turnpike Authority Board is expected to act on the toll increase before the end of the year. The Turnpike’s last toll increase was in February 2005.

The 2009 Toll Adjustment Report (.1MB PDF) offers an overview of the background, situation and toll rate scenarios that have been developed. We recommend reading it prior to viewing the following Toll Rate Charts. The MTA’s Financial Backgrounder may be prove helpful, as well.
