Delays Expected on Rt.100 Bridge Over Turnpike in Falmouth
FAlMOUTH—Drivers who use Route 100 in Falmouth may experience delays beginning next Monday, May 24th, as contractors working for the Maine Turnpike Authority begin to rehabilitate the bridge that carries the roadway over the Turnpike spur. The bridge is located on Route 100 about ˝ mile south of the Hannaford Store Plaza.
Contractors will attempt to keep lanes open in both directions during most of the project, but the lanes will be narrower than usual and traffic will move more slowly through the construction zone. During certain stages of the project northbound and southbound traffic will be alternated through the zone by flaggers.
Turnpike spokesman, Dan Paradee said that the project should be completed in three to four weeks, but exact duration cannot be determined until contractors are able to remove the surface pavement to determine the condition of the bridge deck.
“The length of the project will be determined by what they see when they remove the pavement,” said Paradee. We know that this is an important route for many people so we are planning to get the job done as quickly as possible, he said.
Paradee said that contractors have already set up roadside electronic message boards to warn drivers about upcoming delays. “We are encouraging drivers to give themselves a little more time for their commute beginning Monday morning or to consider an alternate route,” he said.
