Temporary nightly closures of Cummings Road Bridge beginning June 11
Bridge will be closed between 8 PM and 6 AM for up to six nights
PORTLAND, Maine – Beginning on Sunday evening, June 11, 2017, Cummings Road Bridge in Scarborough, that crosses over the Maine Turnpike, will be closed between the hours of 8 PM and 6 AM for up to six nights. The temporary closure is needed so that engineers can do geotechnical borings on Cummings Road adjacent to the bridge. This work is needed to determine the scope of the upcoming bridge replacement project currently scheduled for 2019. Cummings Road bridge was originally built in 1956 and is nearing the end of its useful life.
The borings have been scheduled so as to minimize daytime traffic disruption. Municipal officials and local businesses have been notified. Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of the closures. Motorists will need to seek alternate routes during hours of the closures. The Maine Turnpike Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding during this construction.
