Weymouth Road Bridge in Gray to be closed for construction beginning June 28

Bridge will be closed to traffic for eight weeks

GRAY, Maine – Beginning on Thursday, June 28, 2018, the Weymouth Road Bridge in Gray that carries traffic over the Maine Turnpike will be closed for construction.  The closure is necessary in order to facilitate repairs and to ensure safety of the construction crews and public.  The repairs will include raising of the bridge to avoid future vehicle hits, reconstruction of the roadway approaches, replacement of the bridge wearing surface and repairs to the concrete deck and substructure.  The bridge will be closed to traffic for approximately eight weeks during the construction improvements.

During the closure, a detour route will be signed.  The signed detour route will redirect traffic to Shaker Road and Lewiston Road.  The detour as signed is approximately 6.7 miles long.  The Weymouth Road Bridge carries approximately 1,650 vehicles per day over the mainline of the Maine Turnpike. Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of the closure. The Maine Turnpike Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding during this construction.

The $850,000 project, part of a $3.4 million contract awarded to Wyman & Simpson, Inc. of Richmond, is scheduled to be complete by August 24, 2018.  For more information on this project, view the project information sheet or visit http://www.maineturnpike.com/weymouthroad
