Enhanced customer services coming to turnpike service plazas

Cumberland & Gray Service Plazas temporarily closed for renovations beginning Monday, March 21, 2016

PORTLAND, Maine – Two service plazas along the Maine Turnpike will temporarily close for renovations beginning Monday, March 21, 2016 for approximately nine weeks.  The Gray Service Plaza (located at Mile 59 northbound on the Maine Turnpike) and the Cumberland Service Plaza (located at Mile 58 southbound) will be closed in order to remove Starbucks and install a 24-hour Drive-Thru Burger King in both locations.  The $3 million project will be completed in time for the summer tourist season and is currently anticipated to open by Memorial Day.  As part of a long term effort to improve the customer experience, the MTA is offering more hot food options at these two plazas and the convenience of a Drive-Thru.  All facilities will be open 24-hours a day, seven days a week.  Further, negotiations of lease terms with the fuel vendor have resulted in the lowering of gasoline prices at all Turnpike Service Plaza locations.

During the renovations all services including gas pumps and sanitary facilities will be closed.  Motorists will need to seek alternate locations.  Maine Turnpike service plazas in West Gardiner and Kennebunk will remain open during this time.
