Bridge Repairs to Force Overnight Traffic Stops June 27 & 28

25-minute traffic stops at mile 80 scheduled for Wednesday & Thursday nights

PORTLAND, Maine – Maine Turnpike motorists will encounter intermittent 25-minute traffic stops at mile 86 in Sabattus starting at 10:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27 and Thursday, June 28, weather permitting. Multiple traffic stops are needed to accommodate the safe removal of the steel girders on Furbush Road Bridge that carries traffic over the Turnpike.

Stoppages will occur for Southbound traffic on Wednesday, June 27 from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28. Northbound traffic will experience intermittent traffic stops on Thursday, June 28 from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Friday, June 29.

Motorists should be prepared for significant trip delays or seek alternate travel routes. Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of traffic stops, and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts on 1610 AM will also be used to inform drivers. The Maine Turnpike Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding.

Wyman & Simpson is currently rehabilitating the Furbush Road Bridge, including removal and rebuilding of the entire bridge deck and structural steel. Construction commenced in April 2012 and is expected to continue through November 2012.
