Bridge Repairs to Force Overnight Stoppages on Northern End of Pike

25-minute north and southbound stoppages beginning Sunday, June 29

PORTLAND, Maine – Beginning Sunday evening, June 29, 2014, 25-minute traffic stops will occur in both directions in Hallowell at Mile 106.9 for the removal of structural steel at the Litchfield Road Bridge.  Stoppages are scheduled to occur for three nights at this location beginning Sunday, June 29, 2014 and going through Wednesday morning, July 2, 2014.    A series of 25-minute stoppages will occur each night between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

25-minute traffic stoppages in both directions are also scheduled to occur for two nights in Litchfield at Mile 91 for the removal of structural steel at the West Road Bridge.  The stoppages at this location are scheduled for the night of Tuesday, July 1, and Wednesday, July 2, 2014.  Stoppages will begin each night at 10:00 p.m. and will last until 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

Efforts will be made to avoid stopping traffic at both locations on the same evening so as not to impact drivers more than once.  All work is weather dependent.  Future additional overnight work may also be required.  Motorists should prepare for delays or seek alternate travel routes during the stoppages. Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of closures, and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts on 1610 AM will also be used to inform drivers. The Maine Turnpike Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding during this construction.
