25-minute Traffic Stops at Mile 52 Monday & Tuesday Overnights

25-minute traffic stops at mile 52 scheduled for Monday & Tuesday nights

PORTLAND, Maine – Maine Turnpike motorists will encounter intermittent 25-minute traffic stops in both directions at mile 52 in Falmouth starting at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2 through 5:00 a.m. on April 3, weather permitting. Multiple traffic stops are needed to accommodate the erection of new steel beams for the bridge that carries Interchange 53 (West Falmouth) traffic over the Turnpike.

Intermittent traffic stops are also scheduled southbound only from 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, through 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, to continue steel beam placement, without jeopardizing motorist or worker safety.

Motorists should be prepared for significant trip delays or seek alternate travel routes. Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of traffic stops, and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts on 1610 AM will also be used to inform drivers. The Maine Turnpike Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding.

TCI Construction is currently rehabilitating the Interchange 53 Bridge and completing improvements to interchange ramps. Construction commenced in September 2011 and is expected to continue through November 2012.
