2015 Banner Year for Maine Turnpike Authority
79.5 Million vehicle transactions recorded in 2015
Over 3 million more than previous record set in 2007
PORTLAND - The Maine Turnpike Authority had it busiest year ever in 2015. It recorded 79.5 million vehicle transactions for the year, which is 3 million more than the previous record set in 2007. Passenger cars accounted for 71.8 million of the total transactions for 2015 and commercial vehicle transactions totaled 7.4 million.
The heavy traffic translated into $128.2 million in revenue for 2015, an increase of 3.7 percent over 2014. Of the $128.2 million, sixty-six percent was generated by out-of-state customers. $84.6 million came from out-of-state travelers and the remaining $43.6 million in revenue was generated from in-state.
Maine E-ZPass holders received approximately $10 million in toll discounts in 2015 ($7.7 Million to passenger car accounts, $2.2 Million to commercial vehicle accounts). Over 48,000 people with Maine E-ZPasses are getting a discount based on usage each month. The average discount recieved by Maine E-ZPass account holders in 2015 was thirty-four percent.
